Under Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law, school volunteers who are responsible for a child’s welfare or who have “direct volunteer contact” with children at a school (i.e., the care, supervision, guidance, or control of children and routine interaction with children) are required to have background checks. all volunteers must obtain background clearances in order to be able to volunteer with school-aged children.
The procedure for obtaining clearances is not difficult, but it can take some time to receive your clearances back, so parents who wish to volunteer in school, participate in field trips, etc. and do not have current clearances on file begin the process well in advance. Full information about the procedure for obtaining clearances can be found on the Tredyffrin/Easttown School District website’s Volunteer Clearances page.
