This week’s Teacher of the Week is 6th grade gold team Social Studies teacher Mindy King. Mrs. King received her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan, with a double major in Political Science and United States History. Other than teaching one year at Conestoga, Mrs. King has spent her entire seventeen year career at VFMS. She has been married to her husband, Mike, for fifteen years. They have a twelve year old son named Dan and a nine year old daughter named Hannah.
In an interview with the PTO, Mrs. King shared the following information:
Pets – A dog named Chipper.
Hobbies now – Crossfit, reading, knitting, scrapbooking and attending her kids’ swim and track meets.
Hobbies, sports and interests when you were in middle school – Participated in Student Council, the school newspaper and Odyssey of the Mind. Played softball and swam.
Interesting/little known facts or talents – When Mrs. King was in middle school, she was the school and county Spelling Bee champion, advancing to the state level competition. She also knows A LOT of presidential trivia.
Advice for parents of middle school children – Encourage your child to do their personal best and resist the urge to compare them to other kids. Everyone has their own strengths.
