This week’s Teacher of the Week is Margaret Cannon, who teaches 7th grade Math. Mrs. Cannon earned both her Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees in Secondary Education, specializing in Math, from Bloomsburg University. Mrs. Cannon has spent her entire teaching career of twenty-six years at VFMS. Her husband, Emerson, was also a teacher at VFMS (for an amazing thirty-five years) but is now retired.
In an interview with the PTO, Mrs. Cannon shared the following information:
Pets – Sadly, Mrs. Cannon recently lost her eighteen year old American Eskimo dog, Rex. She has another American Eskimo dog, six year old Starbucks (Bucky), and is on the list to get a new puppy in the spring or summer.
Hobbies now – biking, playing guitar, shopping, traveling and going to the movies.
Hobbies, sports and interests when you were in middle school – played field hockey, was a cheerleader, sang in Chorus and in the school musical, was a member of student council and treasurer of her class, and was on the yearbook committee.
Interesting/little known facts or talents – Mrs. Cannon was once Mrs. Reid’s babysitter! She also used to twirl baton in high school and has been to Disney World sixteen times.
Advice for parents of middle school children – Continue to remind your middle school children that, “Friends are people who accept us as we are!”
