This week’s Teacher of the Week is Jessica Smolij, who teaches Health and Physical Education for all of the grades. Mrs. Smolij earned her Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Villanova University, and her Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from West Chester University. She has taught at VFMS for the last fourteen years. She has also worked for the Perkiomen Valley School District and for the VisionQuest School for Adjudicated Youth. Mrs. Smolij and her husband, Mark, have two beautiful daughters, Raina who is nine years old, and Mira, who is six years old.
In an interview with the PTO, Mrs. Smolij shared the following information:
Pets – No, but her daughters really want a dog.
Hobbies now – Working out, reading and playing with her girls.
Hobbies, sports and interests when you were in middle school – Cheerleading, Orator Club, Spirit Club and Bus Safety.
Interesting/little known facts or talents – Although she cannot sing, she loves to. She is also a big fan of country music, rap, classical, and the list goes on!
Advice for parents of middle school children – Be active, be encouraging, hug them tight, get enough rest, and then REPEAT!
