This week’s Teacher of the Week is Jennifer Pettia, who teaches 7th grade American Studies. Mrs. Pettia received her Master’s Degree in Education from Cabrini College and her Bachelor of Arts in History from Ursinus College. While at Ursinus, she also earned her grades 7-12 Secondary Social Studies Education Certification. Other than one year as a long term sub in another district, Mrs. Pettia has spent her entire career at VFMS. Mrs. Pettia and her husband, Jim, have one son, Jackson, who is sixteen months old.
In an interview with the PTO, Mrs. Pettia shared the following information:
Pets – A dog named Sophia and a cat named Stella.
Hobbies now – Spending time with her family, traveling, shopping for antiques and reading.
Hobbies, sports and interests when you were in middle school – Was a cheerleader and was already very interested in history. She really enjoyed taking family vacations to historical places.
Interesting/little known facts or talents – Is an excellent memorizer.
Advice for parents of middle school children – Speak to your children about school each night at the dinner table. But instead of asking, “How was your day at school” ask specific questions to get beyond one word answers to see how your son or daughter really thinks and feels about school. When parents talk about school with their children it shows them that their Mom and Dad value education, and it keeps parents aware of what is going on in their children’s lives.
